Winter Skills Session
In addition to the more formal spring competition program (March - June), Duxbury Youth Lacrosse offers a more informal Winter Skills session from November 29th through February 24th at the Duxplex (50 Railroad Ave, Duxbury, MA). Winter Skills weekly sessions including a Sunday scrimmage (multiple forms of game play) for 60-minutes and a midweek (either Monday or Wednesday based on the grade levels) 90-minute skill session.
For Winter Skills we combine grades so our athletes have an opportunity to practice with and play against their own classmates along with those one grade older or younger. We combine 1st and 2nd graders, 3rd and 4th graders, 5th and 6th graders, and 7th and 8th graders. While we occasionally bring in outside coaches, guests, and specialists (such as conditioning coaches and high school captains), Winter Skills is primarily led by our spring coaches.
A special emphasis is made on individual skills (passing, catching, shooting, scooping, dodging, cutting, footwork, and 1v1 defense) but our ultimate goal is build confidence for the individual to be aggressive as a contributor to a team system. Our coaches will follow a season plan that builds off previous weeks, putting together an arsenal of tools for each individual player to pull from in any lacrosse setting. At the same time, Winter Skills remains casual, fun, and instructive for those that have some bandwidth in the winter to keep up with their lacrosse skills for a more formal spring offering.
Please refer to the Get Geared Up section for information on appropriate lacrosse equipment as well as the 2026-2027 Winter Skills Calendar for the official schedule.
